I can't reproduce this either, neither via running through grml-quickconfig nor via invoking 
grml-x as user Grml.

Marking this issue as resolved for now (since we're during a bug squashing party  :)). Michel

Can not reproduce. Tested with grml64_2011.05.iso and started openbox with
grml-quickconfig. Message disappears after a few seconds. Could you please try
again? You can try to use osd_cat manually, too (See grml_startupinfo how to use it)

the message "Starting X window system and loading window manager..." do not disappears after few seconds as on previous versions.

I solved it by editing /etc/skel/.xinitrc.d/grml_startupinfo line 14 and suppres the message between quotes. It becomes :
14   echo "" | $
