As usual: squashfs doesn't matter here.
I set CONFIG_EDD_OFF=y and created config-2.6.31-grml based on the amd64 config.
Building against 2.6.31-grml64_grml.00:

squashfs is OK as it's integrated in the kernel.
We should either base our next release on linux kernel 2.6.30 or 2.6.31. Now we
have to figure out what's our upgrade path with regards to squashfs with lzma
support.
AFAICS the openwrt developers have squashfs-lzma patches against 2.6.30:
https://dev.openwrt.org/browser/trunk/target/linux/generic-2.6/patches-2.6.30
We should check out whether they work for us as well and what we have to do
with squashfs-tools.
