after carefull testing we concluded that's nothing to worry about, it's just
kvm not being mature enough.

I tried to verify the problem but on my SMP system (lenovo x61 notebook running
2.6.22-grml) kvm does not work at all.

Neither kvm version 28-4 nor 36-0.1 (both of Debian/unstable) are able to boot
grml_1.0.iso or grml_1.0-3.iso. All versions result in a kernel crash here. :-/

Debugging hints: disable framebuffer (vga=normal or nofb) and booting using
'debug'.

% kvm -cdrom grml_1.0-3.iso
bootloader works but the kernel doesn't boot up properly.
booting halts after the first output line.
> PCI: PIIX3: Enabling passive release ...

grml_1.0.iso works just fine.

% md5sum -c grml_1.0-3.iso.md5
grml_1.0-3.iso: OK
