I understand and support your request but as I don't have access to an 
according ADSL@aon setup I sadly can't help in this case. If you've an 
according tip for inclusion in grml-tips I'd be happy to integrate it, closing 
this issue with "won't fix" in the meantime though.

Np, I was busy these months too.

You might be right that grml-pptp-aon is not worth the effort those
days anymore (espescially when taking into account that aon now ships
their modems with integrated routers) but I need to say that //I//
think that connectivity is a #1 priority.

I often need to know why a connection fails (mostly on a Windows
system). So the first thing I do is to fire up grml and test the
connection with a reliable and working system. Testing systems with a
aon-pptp-dialup-connection have been always been somehow cumbersome
(especially without internet (what a suprise ;)). 

Feel free to close this issue but keep in mind that most of the people
(or at least me) use grml for the things that hardly happen and thats
why I call grml a life-saver. ;)

A possible workaround could also be to add simple-to-find how-to maybe
as a grml-tip.

Here are the promised infos! But I should at first point out, that I was not
able to reproduce my original problem with this AON-Account (thanks Friedl!)...

Here are the issues which should(*)/could(-) be optimized:

* add "usepeerdns" in the ppp-config file (I am not sure how you get nameserver
entries in /etc/resolv.conf (for inode) without this.. my resolv.conf did not
get updated without it.)

- new ADSL-Modems come with a built-in DHCP-Server which also provides the
nameserver "10.0.0.138". This actually conflicts with the DNS-Entries provided
be the ppp-connection (when using the option "usepeerdns"). These entries are
only added afterwards which results in timeouts... "resolvconf" provides the
file "/etc/resolvconf/interface-order"[1] to solve such problems. I think ppp*
should  be rated higher than eth* by default because these connections are
actually used ... What do you think?

- uses "chap-secrets" instead of "pap-secrets"

- just copy "grml-pptp-inode" to "grml-pptp-aon" (*nääh*) or just use grml-pptp
by adding the provider as parameter?

Thats what I found. If you agree with one or some of the issues above I can also
try to submit some patches...

If you would like to see the support for AON included in grml I need your help. 
I neither have any experience with PPTP@AON nor do I have access to such a 
setup. If you think a tip inside grml-tips would be enough please feel free to 
write the text and send it to me - I just don't want to write "let's see 
whether it works"-tips on my own. :)

Would be nice to have a wrapper-script to establish a pptp-connection for AON.

Although I think grml-pptp-inode should work for AON with only some small
modifications, I was not able to bring up a pptp-AON-connection (and sadly had
no time and of course no internet to find a solution or workaround).

If a own script is not considered in the near future (next release) a grml-tip
containing a workaround would also be helpful.
