Oh, I forgot to say that this bug is present in the current GRML 1.1.

In the F3 boot menu of the GRML cd there is a typo in the description of the boot option 'grml2ram'. It says "copy to RAM to RAM and run from there". Maybe it should say "copy squashfs to RAM and run from there", to clarify the difference to 'grml toram'
