Whereas I really like LXDE it's not that useful as lxde-core without recommends which is the only option due to size limitations for Grml nowadays. So sadly not a real option for us now, closing this issue.

See http://lxde.org/ - seems to be a lightweit alternative for the big desktops without being too minimalistic, might be worth a try at least. :)
