Any progress with the script? I am closing this issue for now as there was no 
progress for over an year. 

Please feel free to reopen the issue, we would love to have such a 
script/package in Grml.

Nice idea, definitely something I'd like to see realized for an
upcoming Grml release.

I have a vague idea to propose: one of the regular jobs I use grml for is
restoring the grub1/grub2/lilo MBR of some Linux distribution which has been
destroyed while reinstalling Windows on this system.

It's usually always the same procedure: identify the system and boot partition,
mount them, identify the boot loader used before, bind-mount some prerequisites,
chroot into the target system, run the MBR tool (grub-install or lilo) to fix
the MBR.

I think most if not all of this process can be automated. I imagine some
"grml-fix-my-bootloader" script that just does the job.
