It gets autoloaded at least on my intel powered x201 notebook and a
workstation featuring a ATI 3100 radeon card. So I'm closing this
bugreport.

Close the issue? Test if i915 gets loaded automatically? Dont care as
real hw has to have at least 1024x768?

Ulrich

P.S: I'll try to boot a daily on my x301 the next days

Well we've:

% cat /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf
options i915 modeset=1

already, so I'm not sure what we've to do actually? :)

Hm the radeon stuff was loaded automatically maybe it is already done?
Disabling could be done via nomodeset (????) boot param or explicitly
disable it for the modules via i915.modeset=0 ...

Hm, how could this be done without causing problems (and a way how to
disable this feature without too much magic)?

Correct.

Try to load at least all kms enabled drivers by default (intel, noveau)
which should adjust the console automatically AFAIK.

I don't see how we could resolve this issue, removing vga=791 by default leads
to major behaviour changes for all systems where KMS isn't available, right?
Any (other) options?

Strong ACK, currently I'm lacking knowledge regarding KMS, though we could
start at figuring out e.g. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting

Using the vga=791 option on netbooks can result in a broken/wrong display. We
should have a look at kms
