yep, the 2.6.35 kernel doesn't display such behavior.

bug closed.

grml does not patch any video related stuff into the kernel. The
configuration of the vanilla kernel is important. Unfortunately the
comment regarding stock kernel does not help :/

Thanks mika,

I didn't expected that you'd give a solution so fast. I don' have the
test environment any more. Will get back to you later...

Thanks

Does specifying the "nomodeset" or "radeon.modeset=0" bootoption help?

Please also try current daily.grml.org ISOs, featuring kernel
2.6.35-grml[64].

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem as posted in,
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.user/389332

Ie,

After boot: normal console font (about 80 characters wide)
After startx: small console font (maybe 132 characters?)

The claimed cause is because of the kernel
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.user/389628

"The problem seemed to be solved by going to a stock kernel."

Please confirm.

thanks
