Agree, go ahead.

thanks

I tend to close this bugreport, VMware doesn't support Grml and its recent
kernel versions, it's fine if it works but if it doesn't I can't do that much
about it. Any hints are welcome though.

Got the reply just now:

"Squeeze, Debian-ized kernel 2.6.32-24

I used the VMware blob, not a .deb package. I know that I meet the system
requirements as stated on the VMware web site, but I can't say that I needed
any packages other than the development kernel headers and the tool chain.
I used the Squeeze gcc, v4.4.4 (now 4.4.5), and binutils 2.20.51. dkms is
installed."

Yes. I did 3 or 4 such tricks to arrive at the place where I am now, and
can't move further.

I haven't got the reply as to what exact kernel version he used, but he
succeeded in plain Debian:

Hi,

20 seconds of google-ing turned up:

  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=95149

Did you try something like that?

It does work on plain Debian with kernel >=2.6.35?!

Hi,

The latest Vmware Workstation (version >=7.0) cannot be installed smoothly under
grml. I tried VmWare v7.0, v7.1 and the lasted v7.1.2, all give me

gcc and kernel headers must be installed

even though I got gcc, build-essential and kernel header installed.

I believe that the problem is that grml kernel header (the one that I have
currently is linux-headers-2.6.35-grml64) lacks some fundamental files that
Debian or other distros have.
