Kernel based on 2.6.36.2 available, all external modules being built as well. 
Closing this issue therefore.

Kernel configuration adjusted accordingly, building is WIP right now.

What's open (though not release critical IMO and could be deferred to 2.6.37 or 
later as well) is whether we want to continue using CONFIG_USB_SERIAL=m or if 
we want statically compile it into the kernel so we would improve the usb 
serial console support, see http://womble.decadent.org.uk/blog/usb-serial-
console for the details. Opinions on that?

Also KMS options need to be synched between 32bit and 64bit (thanks, ch).

On next kernel build (when 2.6.36.2 is available):

* unset CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER_PATH
* enable CONFIG_DEVPTS_MULTIPLE_INSTANCES

ndiswrapper issue solved via:

% head debian/changelog
ndiswrapper (1.56-3.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Apply patch http://launchpadlibrarian.net/58046844/ndiswrapper-suse.patch
    from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ndiswrapper/+bug/660664
    so it builds against Linux 2.6.36.

Update:

Applied manual workaround for fglrx issue on amd64 (resolved for now 
therefore), see #604881 for details and my bugreport.

Call for feedback:

Please provide feedback which modules should be considered as release-stoppers 
and which ones are nice-to-have-only or if there even are any which shouldn't 
be shipped anymore at all.
