grml-small isn't supposed to use the "removal hacks" anymore in the future. Since nobody implemented this feature in grml-live for ~1 year I'm hereby marking this bugreport as dead.

See: http://raphaelhertzog.com/2010/11/15/save-disk-space-by-excluding-useless-files- with-dpkg/ Whereas we wouldn't save any space compared to our existing solution it seems to be much cleaner and might avoid possible install/upgrade problems due to missing directories.
