Ulrich did the reimplementation which does exactly what I wanted. Closing this issue therefore.

Formorer did some updates to grml-quickconf (thanks!), what's missing now is only: * check which window managers are available and list only the available ones And maybe the same should apply for all the other binaries as well (pmenu, grml- lang,....) -> check what's available and display only available stuff.

grml-quickconf needs some further tweaking: * check which window managers are available and list only the available ones * support 'u' as key for us keyboard layout * check for bootoption 'nocolor' and disable colors then
