When booting with 'hwspeak' the hardware related speakup modules are
autoprobed. Due to lack of the according hardware I can't test it on my own,
though the code itself seems to work according to my tests.

The speakup.synth=... bootoption is supposed to work as well.

Would be great if someone could test it with the upcoming release candidate of
grml 2009.05.

thx && regards,

I have created a wish which is issue 661. The options most useful to me would be speakup.ser=x and speakup.quiet=y (where x and y are both integers, y limited to 0 or 1). speakup.ser allows the user to specify the serial port the hardware speech synthesiser is connected to and speakup.quiet makes speakup not speak until the next key press (useful if booting the computer but possibly doing something else at the same time which makes it undesirable or difficult to press the numpad enter to silence any boot messages after speakup starts). I have linked to a document giving a little description of the boot options in issue 661 and also suggested some fixes (I prefer the modprobe options although this requires knowing which speakup modules accepts what options.

What are the other speakup options supposed to do?
Which ones are relevant?
I highly appreciate a wish report for those.

Thanks!

Excellent, any thoughts on the comments regarding the other speakup options?
Shall I create a wish report for those? I don't know if it even would be
possible to do those with speakup as modules (IE. if it is possible to pass that
stuff in to modules as options when doing modprobe), I will ask some questions
to find out.

Todo: parse /proc/cmdline for speakup* and load acccording modules.

Just the swspeak feature is working, looks like the hardware modules aren't
loaded automatically. We might have to write a wrapper for this.
