With upcoming versions of grml2hd and grml-debootstrap I'm not aware of any uses of vol_id in our scripts and we're using Debian's udev and grml-udev- config nowadays. Closing this issue therefore.

We have to migrate from vol_id to blkid in all our tools/scripts as vol_id will disappear in udev in the long run. See also http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=541884
