AFAIK it would require some kind of polling (check whether there's a serial 
device available) through inittab, I don't think that's something we want to 
enable by default if so.

And on the other hand there's the security side. Is the user aware of that and 
what about the login data (currently when using the serial boot option no login 
data is needed -> change that while at it?)?
